Normandy Island S. Shore I: Dialogue Between Modernity and Serenity The house sits in the gated enclave of Normandy Island, facing a canal that leads to the bay. It is a quiet lot, and the architecture responds in kind: horizontal, restrained, white where it meets the sky, warm where it meets the hand. The entrance sets the register. A linear driveway leads to a portico punctuated by vertical louvers and a large geometric skylight. The transition from car to house is deliberate, a decompression from the city into something slower, more measured. Inside, a double-height foyer opens onto the main living spaces, where the plan runs in a single gesture from the front of the house to the water. The staircase is the one vertical event. Floating wood treads, glass railings, and overhead light from the skylight give it a transparency that keeps the ground floor feeling continuous. Upstairs, the primary suite opens directly onto the canal, with a freestanding tub positioned for the view and a palette of oak and stone that carries the calm of the lower floor into the most private room. Outside, a mosaic-tiled pool and a series of shaded terraces sit within dense planting. A 60-foot private dock completes the water connection. The house does not raise its voice. It holds its position on the canal and lets the landscape do the rest.
