Shoshone Residence

Shoshone Residence, completed by Tomecek Studio Architecture in 2019, is a modern, three-story house situated in Denver's Lower Highlands. Designed to accommodate a diverse collection of art and sculpture, the project responds to its urban setting and proximity to community gardens at street level while providing views across the city from a roof deck above. The residence is defined by a substantial limestone volume intersected by a series of curved light scoops. These architectural elements are calibrated in size and form to introduce varying lighting conditions throughout the day, shaping distinct visual and spatial experiences within the interior. The largest of these light scoops contains the vertical circulation—connecting the entry, main living areas, and rooftop. The design employs both mass and apertures to balance display needs with changing natural light.
