Uptic Studios — Spokane, Washington, 2017

Saddle Mountain project by Uptic Studios features a modern home with illuminated windows at dusk.

Saddle Mountain is an 8,000-square-foot residence by Uptic Studios, completed in 2017 on a hillside site in Spokane, Washington. The project was shaped by a brief to preserve the natural landscape, resulting in minimal intervention to the terrain and a design that seeks integration with the surrounding environment. The house is organized around clean lines and a palette of timber, stone, and glass. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the great room bring daylight deep into the interior and offer unobstructed views of the changing seasons. A central wood and metal staircase forms a visual anchor, linking the main level to additional living areas on the lower floor. A fireplace detailed with contrasting textures establishes a focal point within the living space. Indoor and outdoor areas are connected through a layout and material selection that emphasize continuity with the landscape.
