House of Rox is a 3,000-square-foot residence located in Roxborough Park, Colorado, and was designed by Davis Urban. The project was shaped by a desire to both engage with and preserve the site’s distinctive geological features and mature vegetation, including several 150-year-old cedar trees identified during a detailed survey. The arrangement and siting were determined to minimize disturbance to the underlying rock formations, resulting in the use of minimal foundations and crawl spaces.
Spatially, the house is organized in two grounded volumes connected by a bridge-like element. This elevated passage allows arrival and entry to take place above natural rock outcroppings, providing views of both the immediate geology and the larger rock formations surrounding the site. The composition integrates contemporary and rustic modern influences, with the architectural gestures responding directly to the character of the landscape.
