THE LOCUST HOME features a dark brick exterior with wood accents and large windows, set among mature trees and greenery.

The Locust Home is a 5,100-square-foot residence in the Sunnyside neighborhood of Denver, Colorado. The design responds directly to its surroundings by maintaining the scale found along the street and retaining an existing locust tree on the property, shaping both the layout and form of the building. Material choices and massing were influenced by the desire to integrate with the neighborhood context, resulting in a masonry base and a steel-framed front porch. The upper floor is set back and shifts in geometry, adapting to the locust tree’s canopy, which contributes to the home's understated appearance at the street. Toward the rear, the design becomes more expressive, with open forms and modern material treatments defining the private courtyard. This transition from the street-facing façade to the more contemporary rear elevation reflects a balance between neighborhood continuity and the clients’ interest in a bolder architectural language for the home’s interior and exterior private spaces.
