Modern English Transitional

Modern English Transitional is a 5,000-square-foot residence by Design DCA that explores the intersection of traditional English architecture with contemporary forms. The brief focused on integrating modern design elements while maintaining a recognizable English silhouette, guiding the composition and organization of spaces throughout the house. A prominent stone garage volume anchors the exterior, with its overhang extending to form a flat roof above the entry, creating a distinct transition between traditional and modern language. Inside, a floating staircase serves as a central architectural feature, dividing a raised dining area from a formal yet open living room that includes a bar. The resulting layout allows for clear spatial separation while encouraging visual connections and circulation throughout the main floor.
