Hutker Architects — 2021

Ledge House is a contemporary residence completed in 2021 by Hutker Architects in Fairfield County, Connecticut. The home's design responds directly to the region's rocky landscape, incorporating large stone outcroppings discovered during excavation. These found materials are central to the project, contributing to both structural elements and site features that ground the house in its immediate context. The architecture is defined by gabled stone facades that enclose a private entry courtyard, where a two-sided fireplace built into the front wall adds visual interest and warmth, particularly in the evening. Inside and out, ledgestone walls and masonry details continue the expression of the site's geology. Adjacent to the pool, an open-air stone cooking pavilion draws inspiration from South American traditions of live-fire cooking, serving as a focal point for outdoor gatherings. The use of locally sourced stone and a blend of contemporary and rustic modern elements connect the home aesthetically and materially to its setting.
