Katama Cove

Katama Cove is a contemporary residence on Martha’s Vineyard designed by LDa Architecture & Interiors. The project draws on traditional local forms, reinterpreted through the massing of two volumes set perpendicular to each other and joined by a low roof. The configuration references Monopoly game pieces, with the primary 'house' structure organized for daily living and sleeping, while the adjacent 'hotel' volume contains flexible rooms used for rest, work, or leisure. Positioned on a corner lot, the home's extensive glazing encourages connection with the surrounding neighborhood—an important aspect for its owners. The interiors reflect a restrained contemporary approach with clean lines and a neutral palette. Shiplap siding brings a coastal character to the guest rooms, while each bathroom uses distinct sand-toned tile. Between the two main volumes, a Shou Sugi Ban charred wood wall forms a visually prominent divide. The garage is designed for versatility, with cedar-lined walls and barn doors that open to the back deck, allowing the space to function as an adaptable 'party barn' for recreation and gatherings.
