Studio One Architeture — Atlanta, GA

Kittredge is a residence in Atlanta designed for a family seeking proximity to their synagogue and community, with a brief that emphasized both religious significance and contextual sensitivity. The owners requested a home that would align with the established forms and visual language of the surrounding neighborhood while distinctly expressing their Jewish heritage. The design centers on a floating roof, set apart from the masonry walls by a clerestory band, referencing a kippah above the head. Masonry and planters adopt tones reminiscent of Jerusalem stone, drawing a parallel with the Western Wall. Corner glazing juxtaposes these solid elements, simultaneously conveying strength and transparency while allowing the landscape to permeate the interior. The plan is organized around twelve thresholds from front to back, with a primary focus on a central courtyard. This space serves as a communal area for family gatherings, celebrations of religious festivals, and gardening, with the rest of the house oriented inward toward this private, daylit core.
