Frog Pond Farm, completed in 2025 by Serge Young, Architect, is located on a rural hillside in Dutchess County. The project consisted of two main components shaped by site constraints, particularly the property's steep grade. The first part involved enlarging the original residence with a new great room and a screened porch, requiring significant excavation and grading to accommodate the addition. The second phase transformed an existing barn into a pool house with layered functions spread across three levels. The barn’s ground floor now holds a garage, a powder room, and a flexible lounge that includes space for plant potting activities. The majority of new work took place on the second floor, which was reconfigured to provide a gathering and display space, a sleeping area, and a bathroom. Structural issues necessitated the complete reframing of the third floor, where the removal of part of a former hay loft introduced a lofted office and exercise area beneath a double-height volume. Updated window arrangements were designed to increase natural light and frame northern views toward the pool, integrating the barn’s interior with its rural surroundings.
