Wyoming Canyon Residence

Wyoming Canyon Residence occupies a remote mountain location in Wyoming, situated within a protected area of a 200-plus acre working ranch. The brief called for a house that integrates with its natural surroundings while offering panoramic views and functional spaces for both living and ranch activity. Design goals included minimizing excavation and site disruption while establishing strong connections between interior spaces and the dramatic landscape. In addition to the main residence, the program includes a substantial barn with accommodations for family living, play areas, horse stables, and storage for recreational equipment. The architects configured the 5,500-square-foot house using natural materials such as stone, wood, and concrete, combined with contemporary building systems. Generous glazing opens the great room to views of the Bridger National Forest, while sliding doors and terraces facilitate indoor-outdoor living and extend the dwelling into the site. The master suite positions its spaces to frame mountain vistas and engage an adjacent aspen grove. The west side of the house supports an informal piano concert area, flexible for gatherings that flow outdoors. The barn provides 3,000 square feet of additional function, reinforcing the ranch’s operational needs.
