West Marin Ranch

West Marin Ranch, designed by Turnbull Griffin Haesloop with interior design by Jeannie Fraise of Lotus Bleu and landscape by the SWA Group, is located on a knoll within a large West Marin ranch. The project consists of a cluster of buildings organized around a sheltered courtyard, creating a protected outdoor space with views toward Mount Tamalpais. The courtyard mitigates the prevailing winds and provides a sunny area that includes a plunge pool and hot tub. The main house features an open plan living, dining, and kitchen area sized for large gatherings, with additional bedrooms and bunkrooms to accommodate extended family stays. The design incorporates numerous sustainable strategies. The house aims for net zero energy use, relying on a remote photovoltaic array for power. High R-value insulation, reclaimed wood floors, zoned radiant heating, and passive cooling address environmental performance. Stainless steel sunshades are used to control solar gain at the windows, while a rainwater capture system provides water for toilet flushing. Exterior finishes include Western red cedar siding and a corrugated zinc roof.
