Turnbull Griffin Haesloop — Chileno Valley, Petaluma, CA

Hupomone Ranch by Turnbull Griffin Haesloop features a modern white exterior with a glass front and gable roof.

Hupomone Ranch is a new residence by Turnbull Griffin Haesloop on a 160-acre homestead in Chileno Valley, near Petaluma, California. Once left fallow for decades, the site was revived as a home for a family committed to sustainable farming and local agricultural traditions. The house was conceived as a barn structure sited to take advantage of the area’s open quality and long views toward the coastal range. The design places the primary entry on the more sheltered north side, tucked beneath a loft space and aligning with a view through the house to the meadow beyond. Natural light defines the living area, which is oriented to the south and connects to both bedrooms and kitchen. Slide-away kitchen windows open directly to a garden. The building prioritizes energy efficiency, achieving LEED Platinum certification with strategies such as high-performance insulation, passive thermal mass, geothermal systems, radiant heating and cooling, and an array of solar panels, exceeding Title 24 requirements by more than fifty percent.
